Peace at Home, Peace in the World – Welcome to Turkey

At 3rd of May at Vigadó was hold the Turkish national evening – Welcome to Turkey! This was already the third national evening organized by Green Sun Association in Kézdivásárhely (Targu Secuiesc) after the Latvian evening in March and the Armenian one in April. Photos taken at this event can be seen on the facebook page of the association.

The Turkish culture was presented by Ahmet Basik – an EVS volunteer from Turkey who presently lives in Bucharest at the “Asociatia Prietenia” (Barátság Egyesület). Ahmet started his presentation with some basic information about his country, pointing on few specific architecture monuments like the Artemis Temple and Mausoleum of Halicarnassus. The few short videos presented brought the public closer to feel and understand the greatest places, the arts and the culture of this very rich and ancient country. The local people from the town had the opportunity to discover the traditional clothing and the very beautiful Turkish art style, the EBRU. They had the chance to dance together the Turkish traditional dance, the Halay and to taste a bit from the incredible richness of the country’s gastronomy: Ahmet offered to the public Turkish delight called Lokum. After the presentation Ahmet answered the public’s questions about the people from Turkey, thus breaking down some stereotypes. Ahmed received at the end of the presentation a gift from Péter János, a membor of honour in Green Sun Association: the flag of Szeklerland. Green Sun Association thanks to everybody who took part in any way in this wonderful evening. Special thanks to Ahmet and hoping for future cooperation between the two countries and cultures.
