The members and volunteers of the Green Sun Association met for the last time this year to close the year 2023 in a festive mood. The organization closed a fully busy year with local and international programs as well. The previous customs were not broken, so Green Sun programs could be found in many parts of our region and Europe. The meeting was opened by Mustafa Erol‘s presentation, an ESC volunteer from Turkey, of the newspaper “ESC Times”. After welcoming the participants, association president Attila Ráduly summarized the 2023 working year with a colorful report, video and statistics. Photos taken at the Friday afternoon meeting can be viewed on the association’s Facebook page.

This year also proved to be rich in terms of programs, because not a week went by without the Green Sun Association coming up with some program. Those present at the December 29 meeting reviewed the organization’s major events, which were reported in the local printed and online media. They summarized the current developments of this year and discussed the most important issues of the common objectives of 2024 in the framework of a conversation. On the one hand, they managed to set a record in relation to international programs (student exchanges, seminars, etc.), and they also continued their previous longer-term projects, relying on the experiences of previous years, striving for better quality and professionalism. Together with their partner organizations, they continued to work on spreading the culture of environmental protection, sports and volunteering in region. In addition to the traditional overnight camp in Comandău, five daily camps were also organized in the town. At the same time, they also put a lot of emphasis on their programs that promote movement, such as the four thematic amateur table tennis championships, the seven Moving Afternoons, the three Family activities competitions, the two bicycle parades, the bike tours, the bicycle treasure hunt and the family running race. “We did our job to the best of our ability. Because of the trips abroad, the year was not easy for anyone, so first of all, let me thank all our volunteers for their active involvement in our programs. I would like to thank our participants, local entrepreneurs and partners for sticking with us, it was a huge help,” concluded the president of the organization.

At the end of the official part of the fifteenth general meeting, the present volunteers were awarded, with the most active ones being specially highlighted. The title of volunteer of the year was awarded to Tamás Venczel from Sânzieni (597 volunteer hours/year), who is helping the organization’s recognition and work for the second year. The second step of the imaginary podium was taken by Bence Gál from Zabola (588 volunteer hours/year), and the third place was occupied by Márton Fanni-Bíborka from Torja (562 volunteer hours/year). The association’s operation this year, its budget, and communication activities were also summarized at the meeting. The members, from the youngest to the oldest, spent this evening together in an informal atmosphere. After the comments, opinions, and awards, they toasted the outstanding success with a joint dinner. The organization will continue its activities next year with numerous programs, still waiting for applications from young people interested in environmental awareness and movement.

On this occasion, the management of the Green Sun Association wishes everyone a successful Sustainable Green Day New Year!
