Critical Mass in 2011, on the International Car – Free Day

On September 22th, on the occasion of the Car –free day, a procession with bicycles called ‘Critical Mass’ was held in Tg. Secuiesc. Photos taken at the event can be seen on the facebook page of the Green Sun Association.

The common goal of the Green Sun Association and the Europe Direct Information Centre from Sfantu Gheorghe was to raise attention to the severe health and environmental problems caused by wide – spreading motorization, human laziness and out – to – date traffic arrangement. More than one hundred and fifty people, mostly kindergarten children and school pupils rode their bikes during the procession. The critical mass started out from the sports centre at 16:30, they cycled into the town centre, then went on to Ady Endre and Molnar Jozsias streets and finally, after doing another circle around the Gabor Aron square they returned to the sports centre. By favor of the Europe Direct office, some of the bikers also won prizes, provided they had registered before the procession and they had a lucky number – that way the organizers could thank the participants for taking part on the event, by offering compasses, bottles, T – shirts and a helmet. On the occasion of the international car – free day, the GSA had a stand, where they presented the local publication of the Nemere Trail brochure, which had been compiled together with the help of the Cholnoky Jeno Geographical Association and was sponsored by the Polgar Tars Foundation and the Tusnad Mineral Water Joint Stock Company. The brochure can be seen free of charge online. The organizers would like Tagru Secuiesc to have cleaner air and hope to mobilize even more people next year. They would also like to thank everybody who contributed to the success of this year’s program.
